Beyoncé takes over Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta, Georgia on July 10, 11, 13 & 14, performing hits from her Grammy-winning album on the Cowboy Carter Tour.
Beyoncé
Beyoncé emerged from being a child of destiny to become one of the biggest pop stars of all time. As a singer, songwriter, rapper, dancer, and producer, she has established herself as an entertainment powerhouse. She has become one of the most awarded artists in music history, including having the most Grammy Awards in the academy’s history. Beyoncé has sold more than 200 million albums worldwide with support from her fans known as The BeyHive. She has also generated millions at the box office with films such as Dreamgirls and her 2023 concert film Renaissance: A Film by Beyoncé, which documented her record-breaking Renaissance World Tour and debuted at #1 on its opening weekend. With her also being a businesswoman, wife and mother, Beyoncé is a true renaissance woman. Beyoncé Giselle Knowles was born on September 4, 1981 in Houston, Texas to Tina and Mathew Knowles. Beyoncé’s name was derived from her mother’s maiden name. The family resided in Houston’s Third Ward neighborhood as Tina owned a salon while also working as a hairdresser and Mathew worked as a sales manager for Xerox. In 1990, Beyoncé was eight years old when she initially joined a group called Girl’s Tyme, which included Kelly Rowland and LaTavia Roberson along with three others girls. The group appeared on the talent show Star Search in 1993 but lost. Mathew Knowles left his job to manage the group, cut it down to Beyoncé, Rowland and Roberson, and after adding LeToya Luckett in 1993, the group was renamed Destiny’s Child. After being signed and dropped by Elektra Records, Destiny’s Child signed a deal with D'Wayne Wiggins of Tony! Toni! Tone! and his company Grass Roots Entertainment in 1995, which led to a record deal with Columbia Records the following year. The group released five albums and their #1’s compilation between 1998 and 2005, which all achieved platinum or multi-platinum status. They also released several #1 singles on the Billboard Hot 100, including “Say My Name”–which won Beyoncé her first two Grammy Awards in 2001–and “Survivor”, which also won a Grammy. Beyoncé was the breakout star of Destiny’s Child, leading her to a solo career with the release of her debut solo album Dangerously in Love in 2003, which featured the JAY-Z-assisted #1 single “Crazy in Love.” The album debuted at #1 on the Billboard 200, sold more than 11 million copies worldwide and earned Beyoncé five more Grammy Awards in 2004. All of Beyoncé’s subsequent solo studio albums have debuted atop the Billboard 200 chart and achieved platinum or multi-platinum status. Among these albums have been several multi-platinum #1 singles, including “Irreplaceable”, “Single Ladies (Put a Ring on It)”, “Break My Soul” and “Texas Hold ‘Em.” In 2010, Beyoncé established Parkwood Entertainment and began releasing her projects through the imprint, starting with her 2011 album, 4. In 2013, Beyoncé had a surprise drop for her self-titled album on a Friday, influencing the Global Release Day to switch from Tuesdays. In 2016, her game-changing album Lemonade was released, which was a visual album that influenced many artists to follow her lead and prompted Rolling Stone magazine to rank it as the best album of the 21st Century (so far). In 2018, amid an infidelity scandal addressed on Beyoncé’s Lemonade and JAY-Z’s 2017 album 4:44, the couple released the joint album EVERYTHING IS LOVE as THE CARTERS. In 2022, Beyoncé released RENAISSANCE, a musically daring trip through Dance, House, Disco and Ballroom past, present, and future. As RENAISSANCE was released, Beyoncé announced via her website the album was the first installment of a trilogy she conceived and recorded over three years during the COVID-19 pandemic, a time she found to be her “most creative [period]”. The three recorded projects are designated into acts under Roman numerals, with act i being RENAISSANCE. In 2024, Beyoncé released act ii COWBOY CARTER, a country and gospel-tinged record, though Bey made it clear “This ain’t a Country album. This is a "Beyoncé” album". Cowboy Carter won Beyoncé her first Album of the Year Grammy Award. Along with music, Beyoncé has appeared in several movies, starting with her first starring role in the 2001 MTV musical Carmen: A Hip Hopera. Her 2006 film Dreamgirls was nominated for multiple Academy Awards, she had a critically acclaimed performance as singer Etta James in the 2008 movie Cadillac Records, and she has also done voiceover work for the 2019 remake of The Lion King and 2024’s Mufasa: The Lion King. Beyoncé also runs a number of businesses, including Cécred hair care and SirDavis whisky on top of endorsement deals with brands such as Levi’s and Verizon. Beyoncé has cited a number of artists as her influences, including Michael Jackson, Janet Jackson, Madonna, Whitney Houston, Diana Ross, Tina Turner, Mariah Carey, Mary J. Blige and Lauryn Hill among others. In turn, Beyoncé has been viewed as the modern prototypical pop star with her influence on artists such as Taylor Swift, Lady Gaga, Rihanna, Ariana Grande and Adele to name a few. Queen Bey became Beyoncé Knowles-Carter after she married superstar rapper Shawn “JAY-Z” Carter in 2008, and the couple has three children: Blue Ivy (born in 2012) along with twins, son Sir and daughter Rumi (born in 2017). Musical success runs in the family as JAY-Z is a multi-platinum rapper with many accolades, Blue Ivy was nine years old when she became the second-youngest person to win a Grammy Award by winning the Best Music Video category for Beyoncé’s “Brown Skin Girl”, and Beyoncé’s younger sister Solange Knowles is also an acclaimed artist with multiple awards. Beyoncé was inducted into the Guinness World Records Hall of Fame for her multiple accomplishments, including being one of the highest-grossing live artists with more than $1 billion generated. In 2024, Billboard crowned Queen Bey as the Greatest Pop Star of the 21st Century.
